Wandering Ghosts II

Every name is a number. Every number is a frequency. Every frequency is a sound. Every sound is pure.
The purest sound in the universe is a sine wave.
Sine waves at different frequencies create different harmonies at any given moment, generating distinct vibrations, generating resonance.

Daniel Meir has created an array of 16 horn speakers, positioned before the viewer like a powerful public address system.
The transmitted sound ranges from signals and undeciphered codes to tones and quotations from musical compositions.
It is a code delivered to an unknown destination, and without being fully understood, it generates urgency and tension.
The signal is sent toward the horizon. The origin and destination are obscure.
The shifting sound sequence creates a situation oscillating between softness and meditation, and restlessness.

The project engages with the concepts and research of sonic warfare, wherein sound becomes “armed” and transforms into an effective manipulative tool for control, deterrence, crowd dispersal, and more.

From this loudspeaker system—resonating with a sense of emergency and war—delicate and intimate harmonies emerge.
The work traces the space between the aspiration to establish direct communication and the resonance and message that are sent far afield.
